Example punch item

Location: Building A · Level 02 · Room 214 · north wall. Observation: 120 mm gouge in painted gypsum board beside the latch jamb. Required result: repair the surface and repaint the affected wall plane to match the approved finish. Owner: Painting subcontractor. Priority: Medium. Status: Open. Due: 21 August 2026.

This example works because the assignee can find the condition, understand the expected finish, and know when the item is ready to close. Replace the details with the standards and terminology used on your project.

Best for

  • General contractors running an internal pre-punch before formal inspection.
  • Architects, engineers, consultants, and owner’s representatives recording closeout observations.
  • Subcontractors organizing corrective work by room, trade, or priority.
  • Small projects that need a professional report without implementing a full project-management platform.

What the template does not replace

A template does not define contractual completion, authorize change, assign liability, certify code compliance, or replace required notices. Use the project contract and approved documents to determine roles, acceptance criteria, formal communications, and record retention.
